Hardscaping & Outdoor Living

Outdoor work fails for one reason more than any other: water and base preparation. What is under the pavers matters more than the pavers.

How It Actually Goes

Step by step, in plain language.

  1. 01

    Grading and drainage plan

Before anything is placed, we plan where water goes. Patios sloped toward the house are the most common outdoor mistake we get called to fix.

  2. 02

    Base preparation

Excavation, compacted aggregate base, and proper depth for the use. Driveways need more than a walkway does.

  3. 03

    Structures and walls

Retaining walls above a certain height are engineered and permitted, and need drainage behind them. Pergolas and outdoor kitchens need footings, and gas and electrical runs need permits.

  4. 04

    Surfaces and finish

Pavers, stone, concrete, or decking, set with correct joints and edge restraint so it stays put.

  5. 05

    Lighting and cleanup

Low-voltage lighting, sealing where appropriate, and a final walkthrough.
